Review of: ‘Holy Cannoli! Chick-E Gets a Job’ by Mona Schmitt
Premise: On Chick-E’s walk home from school, she decides she wants to get a job. There’s a “Help Wanted” sign at one of the local restaurants – Mama Romano’s Italian restaurant. As quick as she applies for the job, she gets it. She was so excited for her first night. One of her table’s was a couple that was sucking face all night. The other table was a family of five where the twin boys did not take well to Chick-E. Just like any book, something bad happens. (I won’t tell you what – don’t want to ruin the surprise!) Chick-E learns a very big lesson – “You cannot be good at everything. Sometimes you have to fail at something and that’s okay, but you have to keep trying.”
Thoughts: This is an adorable children’s book…definitely a great read for a child! You can’t not like the book (Need to be a somewhat mature child due to some content of the book…Chick-E’s bra is mentioned along with a couple kissing, multiple times.) The book is full of many adjectives that depicts a very vivid picture in one’s mind. What a child will take from this book is very important – go for what you want, never give up, make the best out of a bad situation, and most of all – just love life! A wonderful book for a child to read to remember how you sometimes need to look at a situation in a different light. Two thumbs up!
